DQP Holiday Stories! Empty Gingerbread Fiasco

Post by Phoenix Thu Dec 04, 2014 3:28 pm

To be honest, it was a lot of gingerbread.
Like, at least ten pounds of the stuff.
Maybe.
Just maybe.
She had bought a little too much gingerbread.
As Nicky stared at the heap of gingerbread, hands rested on her hips, she heard Jacquine approach, holding the bowl of icing they had made. She heard a soft gasp from the other, obviously in awe of all the gingerbread.
They were probably going to need more icing.
"That's a lot of gingerbread," Jacquine said. Nicky nodded, a sombre look upon her face. Indeed, it was a lot of gingerbread. Of course, that had been stated many times before.
It was a good thing she hadn't dumped out the candy as well. There was a lot more of that.
"Yes, it is. Perfect for making everyone a gingerbread mansion. And then some," Nicky said, a wicked grinning curving up the corners of her lips as she rubbed her hands together in maniacal joy. No one would be able to doubt just how amazing Nicky was, and that would definitely earn her brownie points. Brownie points which she could eventually use later for more nefarious purposes.
"We are going to be here a while."
"Oh, that's fine! I have a whole bunch of Christmas songs to play for us, and Rachel said she'll keep us up with a supply of hot chocolate! And we can always eat some gingerbread if we need food," Nicky said, waving her hand dismissively at the concern on Jacquine's face. They would definitely be working on this for a while.
"Well, if you say so…"
Nicky grinned widely at Jacquine, showing just how confident she was in this, as she went over and started the music. She had spent a good hour putting the list together, trying to mix in as many fun carols as possible, without repeating any songs. She thought she had done pretty good to create a jolly atmosphere.
"Now, who's mansion should we start on first?" Nicky asked. Jacquine hummed, looking over at the (intimidating) pile of gingerbread.
"Perhaps we can do Gabe's first? We are going to do one for him, right? Even though he's new to the team." The look she received from Jacquine (one that put the cutest kittens and puppies to shame. Oh! Her heart!) spoke volumes, and Nicky couldn't find it in her heart to disagree.
"Of course we are making him one! He is a part of our little group now!" Nicky said. Jacquine's face lit up with that, and Nicky mentally nodded in satisfaction.
A happy Jacquine was the best Jacquine.
"Now… We've got the icing bag, so could you fill that up, while I look for some wall pieces?"
"Oui! I can do that!"
Nicky hummed along with the merry tune of the carol as she pulled out all the wall pieces, trying to figure out which ones would be best for Gabe's gingerbread mansion.
Luckily, with over ten pounds of gingerbread, there were plenty of pieces that could be used as a mansion.
As the two got to work, they talked and joked as they tried to figure out how to hold the mansion together so that it would allow the icing to dry.
Apparently, they were going to need more hands.
"You!" Nicky exclaimed as some person walked by—one whose name she didn't actually know. The person stopped and looked over at them, raising an eyebrow.
"What's going on here?" the mysterious person said, approaching, his head tilted to the side in curiosity.
"We need your help holding this together," Nicky said. Her hands were covered in icing, and the walls were starting to cave, despite her and Jacquine's best efforts to prevent that from happening. The person blinked, before shrugging.
"Alright. What do you need me to do?"
"Put your hands where the wall is caving over there and hold it straight, if you don't mind."
"Merci, Gabe! We are really in a bit of a pickle here," Jacquine said, laughing lightly. Nicky nodded, glancing over at the stranger. So this was Gabe?
Not bad.
"Wouldn't this have been easier if you had made it smaller?" Gabe asked, tilting his head to the side as he did his part in holding up the mansion wall. Nicky tsked, shaking her head.
"Dear heavens, do not suggest such blasphemy! Go big or go home!" Nicky said, sounding offended that the other would even dare to suggest they downsize and act conservatively.
They had ten pounds of gingerbread.
They had to be liberal.
There was no other choice.
"But… I think you guys are going to need someone else to help you out," Gabe said. Nicky blinked, arching a brow.
"Why is that, monsieur Gabe?" Jacquine asked, head tilting to the side in curiosity.
"Well, you're going to need someone else to apply more icing in certain areas so that they'll stick better."
Nicky silently cursed.
Gingerbread building was supposed to be her and Jacquine only. Now it seemed like she was going to need to recruit a small army to keep just one together.
At least there was still the mistletoe.
